Hello, I'm Laurence Dalton
My experience in teaching English GCSE
I have been teaching English GCSE for over 18 years. After graduating from Liverpool University and gaining my teaching qualifications, I commenced my career in the classroom. Having been graded an 'outstanding' teacher by Ofsted, progressing into a Head of English position and then becoming an exam marker for a leading English GCSE exam board, I began private tutoring. I now offer tuition to year 10 and 11 students from the comfort of their own home and I also provide workshops for schools around England.
A little about who I am
I am a family-man. I combine spending my time teaching English to secondary school students with enjoying time with my two boys and wife. My boys are two lively individuals and we love taking them to numerous sports clubs as well as regularly exploring the country whilst holidaying in our caravan.
As well as teaching English for a career, I am also passionate about hiking and exercising; I spend my spare time completing various long-distance hikes around the United Kingdom, regularly walking in the Snowdonia mountains, Derbyshire, Shropshire Hills and the Lake District. I also box most weeks, run and enjoy swimming.
I am a very positive person and I look to try and encourage my students to embrace life, enjoying it as an experience to be cherished. My teaching very much reflects this attitude as my lessons are successful because of the positive working ethos that I look to build with my students.
I pride myself in delivering bespoke one-to-one English Literature and English Language tutoring to secondary school pupils studying for GCSE.

- 2017 results revealed 84% of students improved by two grades in just three months.
- 2018 results saw that 89% of students raised by two levels or more, during their time with me.
- 2019 results revealed that 93% of students gained by two levels or more during their time with me.
